A Dental Deep Cleaning Is Better With Laser Dentistry
We can perform a deep dental cleaning in order to treat your gum disease. We have found that many of our patients visit our dentist office looking for a solution to treat their gingivitis or gum disease after speaking with other dentists who talked about invasive methods, which they are concerned about undergoing. For example, with traditional deep dental cleanings, the gum tissue needs to be pulled away from the tooth structure so a metal dental tool can be used to scrape the plaque and tartar that has built up on the teeth. It is an effective treatment method, but it is understandably invasive and will cause irritation.
Afterward, most patients have swollen gums, bleeding gums, and difficulty brushing and even eating for several days to weeks due to gum irritation. That is why we use modern technology to make our deep dental cleanings as comfortable as possible. As a laser dentistry office, we can perform this procedure without causing irritation or swelling, and the procedure is just as effective as traditional methods.
Why You Get Gum Disease
In most cases, gum disease develops due to the buildup of plaque and tartar on the surface of the teeth below the gumline. This area is incredibly difficult to clean at home. In fact, it is typically impossible since the toothbrush cannot reach there. However, one can help prevent this buildup by brushing twice a day and flossing at least daily.
It is crucial to go all the way down along the lines of the teeth. Once the gap traps plaque there, the only way to remove it is to schedule a deep dental cleaning. Additionally, some people are at greater risk of developing gum disease in general. This includes those who are pregnant, smoking, chewing tobacco, or diabetic.
Laser dentistry is a better treatment option
As a laser dentist office, we know how much better our patients feel after a laser procedure than if they receive traditional treatment. Lasers produce incredibly fine beams of energy that we can use to target the plaque and tartar without pulling the gum tissue away from the teeth. This allows us to break up the plaque and zap it away. As a result, we will eliminate the irritation so the gums can return to good health. Other benefits of lasers include:
#1. No swelling.
When we use lasers, they will not irritate the patient's gums, so there will not be significant swelling as a result of the procedure. This means that the gums will look far healthier after the appointment than with a traditional deep dental cleaning.
#2. No discomfort.
Since there is very little discomfort, if any, associated with a laser dentist procedure, most of our patients do not require any anesthesia when having a deep dental cleaning. Traditionally, anesthesia is an absolute must.
#3. No to minimal bleeding.
We can use lasers to actually help stop any bleeding during the procedure. As a dentist, we find this to be incredibly useful for treating both the gums and teeth.
#4. Fast recovery time.
Since the gums will not be swollen or irritated and you will not experience any significant bleeding, the recovery time after a laser dentist deep cleaning is far less than other treatments. Most of our patients find that within a day or two, they can return to their normal eating habits without any form of discomfort.
